Absence Reporting Button!

To our most wonderful Spartan parents…

We are thrilled to introduce you to a new feature for attendance at SLJH!!!  An Absence Form online.  Now you can submit same-day absence messages for your child(ren) directly to the Attendance Office with the click of a button on our campus website…eliminating the need for a separate phone call, fax or email message.

Now, here’s where we need your help…

We hope this new process will allow us to expedite your attendance information quicker, and with more accuracy, so please don’t be shy to try it.  A couple things to note:  Reporting is for SAME-DAY absences only, and should therefore be used within school hours (6:30a – 3:00p).  The form is not to report absences missed last week, last month or even the day before.  Each submission is automatically time-stamped and will record an entry for that day’s absences only.  Once your form is submitted, you do not need to submit your absence any additional way, i.e. phone call, fax, email.  The form, however, does not take the place of a doctor’s excuse.  Again, we are very excited about this new feature and encourage everyone to use to it.

How to…

If your student will be absent TODAY, go to our campus website, click on:

and log in your student’s information.  It’s that easy.

Spartans are making it happen with technology!

SLJH Lip Dub Debut

SLJH Lip Dub 2013

SLJH Spartans filmed our first ever Lip Dub on Wednesday, January 9th!  We are a Rachel’s Challenge school and we are committed to making sure that every student on our campus is treated with kindess and respect.  Spartans take care of Spartans!  We had a wonderful time creating this video to show the world how we treat others in Spartan Territory!  Enjoy the video!

Many thanks to Chris and Katie Frazier for all of their hard work to create this and to all of the students and staff who made it an outstanding endeavor.

STAAR Practice Testing-Closed Campus

Hopefully you are already aware that we are TESTING at SLJH tomorrow and three days of next week.  Due to testing, we have a modified schedule.  Please click HERE to view the schedule and you will notice that next week our students won’t eat lunch until after 12:00.  Please send them with a bottle of water and a dry snack each day so that they can make it through the day without their tummies rumbling.

Car Rider Line Consequences

Thanks to all of our students and parents who are doing a FANTASTIC job of following our car rider guidelines.  The rain caused some chaos for us yesterday but today was much better.  Please remember that failure to pull all the way forward to allow for as many students to load and unload at once will result in a detention for your child.  Dropping students off students in an area that would cause them to cut across traffic will also result in detention.  Your cooperation in keeping our kids safe and our line moving quickly is very much appreciated.

Excellent PR for SLJH

Happy New Year & Welcome Back!

Happy New Year and Welcome Back

We hope your holiday was restful.  Our second semester will be just as busy as the first, if not more so.  Thank you for keeping up with what’s happening at SLJH and being a part of our success.  We are looking forward to a terrific 2013!  Can’t wait to see our kids back on Tuesday, January 8th!

SLJH Legacy Wall Completed

Our tile legacy wall has been installed!  Please come by to admire it.  It looks fantastic and you are bound to be inspired by the wonderful quotes our students and families contributed.  Many thanks to all who participated by purchasing a tile. Special thanks are extended to Natalie Jones for coordinating the project and to Gina Van Hoozer for the beautiful centerpiece which she completed while on vacation.  Be on the look out for our next project coming soon!

Campus Closed for Practice STAAR Testing

Please take a moment to study our school calendar at http://kisdwebs.katyisd.org/campuses/sljh/Documents/Parent%20Calendar%20revised%2012-17-2012.pdf

Note that our campus will be closed to all visitors two days this week and several days next week due to practice STAAR testing.  Thank you in advance for helping us to maintain a testing environment by getting your children here on time and making sure they have everything they need with them when you drop them off.  It is highly recommended they bring a water bottle and a dry snack on testing days.  Their brain works better if it is hydrated and nourished.

Consequence for Failure to Adhere to Drop-Off/Pick-Up Guidelines

Our drop-off and pick-up procedures for our car rider line are very clear and are designed to get as many students loaded and unloaded as quickly and safely as possible.  It is imperative that cars pull as far forward as possible before dropping off or picking up a student.  It is imperative that cars form a double lane and then politely take turns merging into a single lane when they reach the cones.  It is imperative that students NOT be dropped off or picked up on the street or in the parking lots and be forced to cross moving lines of traffic.  Effective Tuesday, January 8th, students who fail to adhere to these safety guidelines will be given a consequence for failing to comply.  The consequence will begin with an assigned detention and will get progressively more severe for repeat offenders.

Early Pick Up for Students

Please remember that all students must turn in a note to the attendance office first thing in the morning if they will be picked up early for a doctor’s appointment.  Thank you in advance for helping us to make this a streamlined and effective practice.  Students will NOT be pulled from class after 2:20 pm.
